French 'Rococo' Arm Chair, Design 23r
Design 23r, the once pronounced "unmakable" armchair design from"The Gentleman & Cabinet Makers Director, 1762", by "Thomas Chippendale" The design is featured in Thomas Chippendale's " The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director, 1762". a design book containing over 160 engravings of Thomas's new proposed ideas for the English rococo style, 23r is said to be a sentimental favorite of the 18th Century British cabinetmaker / designer. Once deemed impossible to build, design 23r, a beautiful and unique piece has now been painstakingly brought to life by Joseph. Taking 12 months to carve, the first completed in 2000, and now a second identical one in 2003, completing the most beautiful matching pair of French rococo Chippendale chairs (so I'm told) EVER. Close up pictures showing the intricate carving on the chair can be seen here.
