I saw this post by Joseph Hemingway on line about blind nailing. You may find it useful. I haven't tried it.
Mike
Joseph Hemingway offers a tip for affixing mouldings without having to fill nail holes later. First, mark a line on the back of the moulding where you will put your nails. Mark a matching line on the workpiece or wall where the moulding is to be affixed. Drive small nails 1/4 inch into the back of the moulding along your line. Then, use nippers to cut off the ends of the nails so they all stand about 1/2 inch proud of the surface. Sometimes it helps to leave the two end nails just a little longer to make it easier to line up the moulding. Next, apply glue to the moulding. Finally, while holding the moulding with the nail ends up against your alignment lines, use a scrap block of wood for protection and a hammer to tap the moulding into place along its entire length.

Period mouldings usually exhibit unfilled nail holes, so to me, leaving them unfilled is authentic. Emphasis was placed more on the overall impact of a piece of furniture and less on what many modern cabinetmakers see as imperfections. Scribed layout lines are another example of 'blemishes' that were seemingly unimportant detractions in the grand scheme of things.

Who is the joker above Named: Dick Ried? sorry :Jack Plane?   A Cabinetmakers job, is to leave any finnished cabinet he has made,  Unblemished by man's hand, so the polishers job is so much easyer to French Polish.

Yet another remark by:  Dr Dick Ried. january 02 2011.

Dr Hemingway, at work carving a Chippendale fire suround.

This is how: Dr Dick Ried, Heared of: Dr Joseph Hemingway, again in 1992. (they first met

in 1959. at: Taylor &  Hobson Ltd. after Joseph repaired, a collection of Chairs for: Ried

Preface from the: 1762, The Gentlleman and  Cabonetmakers Director.

:Dick Reid  at work? Note: Carving a plaster mould?

He regualy visited Huddersfield, to  order Yorkshire Stone pavement, for: The UK Goverment, to line the streets of London (one of his (Perks in Life) Reid Boastered about this with Hemingway, about  his placing  order's at Huddersfield on a regular order.

Johnson Wellfield Quarries Ltd, Crosland Moor. Huddersfield, now part of the Myers Group.co.uk. This is ineresting.? what dose this statement. mean?

More than sure, 1775 painting by: Leonardo da Vinci,  Rape in 1775, The only Outhentic likeness of Leonardo in Red Chork.as an old man.

From this he approached Joseph Hemingway in late 1999, his propoasal was to hand carve: ' The Impossible Chair , The Design,From: The Gentleman and Cabinetmakers Director 1762 4th Paragraph from the Preface 1762,Thomas Chippendale     The Impossible Chair,6th paragraph, The Peface, Where, Thomas Chippendale, States, every design may be Impoved By a skilfull workman.

Dick Ried waited untill it was polished, in his York Studio,

Before Ried offered me just £7,000?which I  Refused ?Then Dick Ried?''said he would  put Hemingway out of Business?

So I Contacted, The Victoria & Albert Musuum, London, Kate Hay, Furniture, sated, The first char ever in the correct to the Director Proportions. This upset Dick Ried.who wrote to

:Dr Tessa Murdock, your Kate Hay had not seen the chair like I have. Totaly Incorrect in its design. massage from the designer 1762,Thomas Chippendale: I Have Given no Design Which may

be improved by a skillfulls workman, just as Dr Hemingway. I then contacted: American Furnirure expert , Robert Sta

Note: In 2003, I joined the Business Link,Passport to Export. group to, New York, America. where I dicovered: Smith & Watson. ook him till 23/1/2007? ,Hence My Sudio fire. all to save his  own skin. Because on:15/10/2003, he sold a chair for £386.400 as a true: Chippendale , Ribbon back Chair, which was Not.

In 2003 the first chair above,Sold for £386,400. News report, above. So Joseph decided to carve the true version. The Director, the chair is above. created a headache for Dick Ried, who ordered the destruction of his studio,23/1/2007. report above. Note: So why is a true Ribban back chair only worth.in the Uk. £400-600. Bonhams, London, sourly it should match at least the £386-400 on any rainy day? Note: on a Sunny Day ? its American Value may be reached.

and : Devid Hammond, both reporters for: The Huddersfield Exaniner

Peopae don't believe real old Craftsmanship still Exists today. So says: Joseph Hemingway, Carver-Cabinetmaker-Furniture Restorer. from Armitage Bridge, Huddersfield.Who has been tackling one of his biggest wood carving jobs for some time, A Thomas Chippendale. Fire Surround. his customer had traveled Far & Wide to find a True Craftsman? she need not have bothered, with Joseph on her doorstep. Joseph served his apprentiship with: Taylor & Hobson Ltd, Cloth hall street, and: Hawkbys Court , in New Street, Huddersfield. its Cabinet works was at:27,Chaple Hill, Huddersfield.Note: In 1899, two well respected cabinet firms amagumated, Note: Albert Taylor & Sons Ltd. (1840) and: F B Hobson & Sons Ltd,(1851) Into: Taylor & Hobson Ltd, this firm occupied  by 1926m all:10 shops in the same block. with its Cabinet shop Behind in the yard. ( its today a Bank car park. as is its show room's) Strange how a very large,Successful  firm as Taylor & Hobson Ltd should just vanished into thin air after trading for so long, 1851-1992 My theory on this is: Dick Ried has claim all the: Taylor & Hobson Ltd,  Chippendale, inspired Rococo Furniture, was made by:Thomas Chippendale, after 1754. for many I've seen and work on while working in Taylor & Hobson Ltd,  Cabinet Works, 27,Chaple hill, Huddersfield.? and they are included in modern books, today?  claimed to be made by Thomas Chippendale? Hum?

Dr Dick, I Post this infomation for your Benifit?  Joseph  Procured a copy of your report' Majestic Markings' . June 2007. Price £2-75P .Cash.The very reason the reporter: Chris Titley, do's not mind my  useing his report. we are just  reporting his news (not yours Ried?to the world)

I recived permition to use it before I did. That gave me the right to? First: Read? and the  Share, his report.

Note:News, Comment by:Dr Dick.Jack Plane, retires to Australia, after Dick Reid donates UK Heritage to America Museum, then claiming he was a retired UK Antique Dealer, Hum.The only dealing Dick Ried did was collecting: Taylor & Hobson Ltd, Furniture to rename it Thomas Chippendale. as we all now reolise.

Not quite sure where I stole anything mate? (your post

Why are you carving plaster, ? Dr Dick? It’s usually set in a mould? For it dulls the tool cutting edge.Note:like I stated on:March 08, Dr Dick, What do you mean? Whoops?Jasper Carrott’s punch line, he clichéd the Problem then? didn’t he just, Dip Head?
Or something similar?Note: Now IRemember his line? 'Dick Head. was the words

Or is some thing else touching a nerve? The joker 'Today' is not I. Dr Reid

There’s a lesson for everyone if they search? Note: it seem's you Copy & Paste? from others work your self, all the time.

Makes  anyone  wonder how you managed: 50 Windsor chairs? with no edge on your chisel? (SAPFM:   Resent Post ? By Jack Plane.)

Who is thisDr Dick Reid who retired in 2007.Jack Plane, his name change. Note: I  haven't made 400 Windsors, but I have made probably close to fifty.
